With its operations that promote sustainability and socioeconomic development, BBF is among the members of the Global Coalition of OACI, a specialized UN agency.

Brasil BioFuels (BBF), a Brazilian company that operates in sustainable agribusiness from palm cultivation in degraded areas, trading, biofuel production and renewable energy generation, has become a member of the Global Coalition for Sustainable Aviation of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN).

The Coalition acts as a forum for its members to highlight the development of new concepts, accelerate the implementation of CO2 reduction innovations, and assist in identifying the latest innovations for presentation during OACI events to achieve global sustainability goals.

The company is the largest oil palm producer in Latin America, and for the coming years it will continue with its strategy of sustainability and socio-economic development, including the first biorefinery in Brazil for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

"Our pioneering spirit in making feasible the first biorefinery for the production of this renewable fuel in the country, along with our sustainability practices, were fundamental for our participation in the ICAO. We managed to come out ahead with a green fuel, to contribute to the decarbonization of a very important sector in the Brazilian economy and one that lacks renewable solutions", says Milton Steagall, CEO of BBF. The biorefinery, mentioned by the executive, will also pioneer the production of green diesel (HVO) for vehicles and is scheduled to start operations in 2025.

The project will use palm oil as the main raw material and will have installed capacity to produce up to 500 million liters of sustainable fuel per year. The Brazilian aviation sector currently consumes 7 billion liters of aviation kerosene per year, emitting about 10 million tons of CO2 annually.

Since its foundation in 2008, BBF operates with a verticalized business model, including the entire production chain, as a way to ensure the effectiveness of the proposed solutions and environmental preservation, leading important transformations in the energy generation and biofuels markets. "BBF's projects play a key role in the transition of the Brazilian energy matrix in several sectors, promoting the decarbonization of the economy and socioeconomic development in the Amazon region," concludes Steagall.
