Program foresees initiatives in 80 communities in six municipalities in the state by 2025

O Grupo BBF (Brasil BioFuels) formalized on Thursday (5) a commitment agreement with the environmental secretariats of six municipalities in northeastern Pará. The partnership aims to implement the "2025 Socio-Environmental Education Program", which will reach around 80 local communities in the towns of Acará, Moju, Tomé-Açu, Concórdia, Bujaru and Abaetetuba. During the visit to the group's operations, the representatives were able to see the results of the more than 200 socio-environmental initiatives carried out in the state.

The main aim of the program is to raise awareness about environmental preservation and the recovery of degraded areas, promoting workshops, lectures and practical activities with communities. In addition, the project will emphasize environmental education in schools, encouraging children and young people to adopt sustainable practices, including planting seedlings and protecting biodiversity.

Actions in Pará promote environmental recovery

Since 2008, Grupo BBF has been working to recover degraded areas in the Amazon, protecting more than 60,000 hectares of Permanent Preservation Areas (APP) and Legal Reserves (RL). In Pará and Roraima, the company cultivates more than 75,000 hectares of oil palm, contributing to environmental recovery, job creation and socio-economic development in the region.

In Brazil, the sustainable cultivation of oil palm is regulated by the Agroecological Zoning of Oil Palm, which allows the recovery of degraded areas until 2007 in the Amazon. According to Embrapa, more than 31 million hectares in the region have potential for oil palm cultivation.

Milton Steagall, CEO of Grupo BBF, highlighted the importance of the project for biodiversity conservation and environmental education. "We are introducing palm cultivation into degraded areas, connecting natural environments and mitigating the impacts of ecosystem fragmentation. This partnership with the secretariats in Pará is essential for consolidating our commitment to a sustainable future," he said.

Commitment to local communities

Grupo BBF has maintained a Community Relations Plan since the beginning of its operations in the state, investing in infrastructure works, welfare services and professional training. The actions reinforce transparent dialogue and the well-being of the communities, always prioritizing the sustainable use of the soil and encouraging agricultural practices without the use of fire.

"The partnership with the municipal departments strengthens our commitment to socio-environmental education and contributes to the preservation of the Amazon rainforest. Our aim is to generate jobs and income in a sustainable way, promoting a better future for the planet and for generations to come," concluded Steagall.
