About Biodiesel

Biodiesel is a renewable fuel produced from vegetable oils and animal fats. Its chemical definition is that of a methyl or ethyl ester, obtained from a chemical process called transesterification. In Brazil, Biodiesel has been regulated since 2005 and is used to fuel heavy fleets, agricultural machinery and power generators, among others.

Biodiesel and Fossil Diesel

Biodiesel can partially replace the use of fossil diesel in engines. The mixture of Biodiesel and Diesel is known by the letter B followed by the percentage of biodiesel added. As of March 1, 2024, the new biodiesel blend with a proportion of 14%, also called B14, came into force, according to a resolution by the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE).
