BBF donates material for the construction of a health center in Acará

Company signs partnership with the city hall and local community for the construction of the station with capacity to serve more than 300 families in the city.

Grupo BBF (Brasil BioFuels), the largest palm oil producer in Latin America, is starting its third year of operations in the state of Pará with the donation of material for the construction of a health center that will serve more than 300 families living in the community of Bucaia, in the municipality of Acará, in the northeast of the state. The work will be carried out in partnership with the municipal government, which will be responsible for building the health center and operating it.

In a ceremony held this Friday (17), at the headquarters of the Infrastructure Department of Acará, the mayor Pedro Paulo Gouvêa ("Pedro da Balsa"), received from the hands of representatives of the BBF, the term of donation and all the material for the construction of the new health unit that will be in possession of the city hall for the start of works still this month.

The construction, awaited for 12 years by the local community, will have a structure with capacity to serve the families living in the region with space for urgencies and emergencies, as well as social programs focused on women's health and the elderly.

Mayor Pedro da Balsa emphasizes that the municipality seeks and needs partnerships like these to offer a higher quality service to the population.

"With this vital incentive for public health, we will be able to deliver a complete structure to residents and focus on better quality care. That's why we can only be grateful for this initiative by Grupo BBF , which has spared no effort to help consolidate this important project, which should be officially handed over to the population within 60 days," said the mayor.

"It is very important to highlight how much of a partner the BBF is to our community. It responded to our request and took the initiative to improve the quality of life of our families. The expectation is to have public health care closer to us and with all the structure we need here," concludes Marcos Nunes, leader of the Bucaia community.

BBF and the communities

In 2022, Grupo BBF carried out more than 40 actions aimed at the communities of the Acará Valley municipalities, such as building bridges, maintaining side roads, expanding 4G coverage, among other improvements.

Among the highlights of the improvements in infrastructure and services are the construction of 9 bridges, the maintenance of more than 650 kilometers of local roads, the construction of artesian wells, water tank structures for the communities, professional training courses, lectures on environmental preservation in public schools, phytosanitary technical assistance to the region's farmers, among others.

Another important landmark in BBF's operation in Pará is the generation of jobs and income. Of the more than 6 thousand direct employees that the company currently has, more than 5 thousand are in jobs in the state of Pará. With the job opportunities and the socio-economic development of the region, there are more than 18 thousand indirect activities generated by the company.

Through the Family Farming Program, of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply, the BBF encourages more than 400 families in communities in the municipalities of Tomé Açu and Acará, in the state of Pará.

BBF provides them with seedlings, swaps to buy fertilizers at affordable prices, technical assistance from specialists in oil palm cultivation, bank credit assistance, incentives for continuous improvement, and guaranteed purchase of the fruit at competitive market prices. In all, production has guaranteed an income of more than R$30 million to the company's partner families working in oil palm cultivation.
